Ministry to Young Parents Our Student Ministries and Children's departments have developed an infrastructure to accommodate the needs of youth and children, and the Worship Center provides an environment for worship styles that are attractive to them. The time has come to add an additional Pastor to disciple these young parents.
Community Outreach The fields are ripe for harvest in the new communities that are growing up just outside our gates. We need to reach out to these new neighbors, to enable them to experience God's saving grace and the love of Jesus Christ that is so amply expressed here at The Lake of the Woods Church.
Missions Ours is a mission-oriented church, and we wish to become more missional in our ministry. We currently allocate ten percent of our operating budget to missions. In furtherance of this vision, we believe strongly that ten percent of the funds raised in this "Expanding Our Vision" stewardship campaign should likewise be devoted to selected mission projects, where a significant impact can be made.
Unfunded Urgent Capital Priorities Throughout our church facility there are a number of projects awaiting funding. Along with numerous building and grounds improvements, there are several critical building repairs that have been deferred due to lack of funding.
Our Response Each of these efforts requires funds that are not presently available in our projected operating budget. We can seize the initiative, however, by eliminating the second largest expense item from our budget... the $130,000 annual mortgage payment. By paying off the mortgage as soon as possible, we can generate the funds necessary to meet our congregational care, outreach, and mission goals and expand our vision. At the same time, we will have saved about $800,000 in interest that otherwise would have been paid over the remaining life of the mortgage.
The church leadership believes that we have been called to a three-year stewardship journey. Our goal is to raise $1.8 million to pay off the mortgage so that we may add a Pastor for Families and Outreach, and extend our mission as ambassadors for Christ. The challenge of this journey requires each of us first of all to turn to the Lord in prayer and ask what He would have us do.
